Lost. Between Brockwayville and Hiram Woodward’s on the Sinnamahoning [sic], a small Day Book. Any person finding the same and leaving it at this office will be suitably rewarded. James S. Colt. (Elk County Advocate, 6 July 1865)
"This office" refers to the newspaper's office in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. Note that Brockway was originally known as Brockwayville. Oh, and the spelling of SinnAmahoning . . . in the newspapers and other historical records, it is often spelled with an A; today, the correct spelling is with an E. And sorry, there is no record of whether Mr. Colt ever got his day book back. He offered a "suitable" reward - this gives us an indication that this was important to him. Think of the panic you feel when you can't find your phone!
