The editor of the Elk County Advocate (June 1866) noted that St. Marys, Pennsylvania was in the midst of a building boom in the early summer of 1866 and used the opportunity to plug the value of advertising in his own paper.

"We were struck upon a recent visit to St. Marys [from Ridgway] by the unmistakeable [sic] evidences of its prosperity. Wherever you turn you are greeted with the sound of hammers of masons and carpenters engaged in the erection of new buildings. Not only so, but the hotels and stores were crowded even at this dullest season of the year. We are pleased to find that those business men who advertise were receiving the patronage they deserve."
